Mission and Goals

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of TEAM-Science is to transform science education in East Alabama through stakeholder collaborations that empower students in scientific literacy to contribute responsibly to the ever changing needs of society.

OUR BELIEFS

We believe that science facilitates students’ ability to think critically as they analyze and synthesize data in order to solve problems using a scientific approach.

We believe that students will graduate from high school with a fundamentally sound background in science so that they can make good decisions regarding scientific issues.

We believe that science teachers enter the profession with strong knowledge of science content, instructional strategies, and curriculum for effective teaching and learning.

We believe science educators, administrators, scientists, and the community work together to create systematic, school-based reform plans for the enhancement of science education.

OUR GOALS

Students will successfully communicate scientific understanding and solutions to scientific problems in written and oral form.

Students who take challenging science courses will graduate from high school prepared to excel in introductory college science courses and/or major in science in college.

Teachers will incorporate content knowledge into inquiry methods of teaching science while implementing research-based and classroom-tested curriculum.

All science education stakeholders will participate and benefit from appropriate professional development opportunities that are ongoing and embedded in classroom practice.
